Hüttenrauch neuer Trainer in Berlin

Nachdem in den letzten Tagen und Wochen immer spekuliert wurde, wurde es nun heute bestätigt: Uwe-Michael Hüttenrauch wird der neue Trainer von Claudia Pechstein und der Trainingsgruppe in Berlin und folgt ab dem 01.04.2015 André Unterdörfel in dieser Position. “Ich werde es machen”, kommentierte “Hütte” seinen neuen Job, zu dessen Annahme er sich nach vielen Gesprächen mit dem Sportdirektor der DESG, Robert Bartko, entschlossen hat.

Nico Ihle sichert sich durch seinen 5. Platz beim Weltcupfinale in Erfurt über die 1000m den 3. Rang im Gesamtweltcup. Der Chemnitzer tritt damit die Nachfolge von Olaf Zinke an, dem dies erstmalig und zuletzt in der Saison 1989/90 gelang. Den Lauf in Erfurt gewann Denny Morrison (CAN) vor Kjeld Nuis (NED) und Vincent de Haitre (CAN). Im der Gesamtweltcup-Wertung siegte Pavel Kulizjnikov (RUS) vor Kjeld Nuis (NED) und Nico Ihle.

With her 20th participation in World all-around championships, Claudia Pechstein, missed to rank for the top 8 skaters to skate the final 5000m. The women from Berlin failed with scarce 0.005 points to reach the final race. In the end she finished the competition on the 10th place. Nevertheless, as she announced before the championships, that she already has achieved her goals for the current season with a podium in Single Distance World Championships.

Leia Behlau with new German junior record

Young-star Leia Behlau from Erfurt skated a new German junior record over 1500m during the World Allround Championships in Calgary (CAN). It was the first time in her career that she skipped the limit of 2 minutes (1.59,96 minutes). The old record was held by Judith Hesse (also from Erfurt) for almost 13 years. Judith skated 2.01,07 minutes on 20.03.2002 in Calgary, too.

Sven Kramer (NED) and Heather Richardson (USA) are in the lead after the first day in the overall standings of World Allround Championships in Calgary. Defending champion, Koen Verweij (NED), discontinued the competition after a fall over the 500m. Claudia Pechstein convinced with two season best times and is after the unpopular 500m and 2 distances in 11th positions. Now show hopes to be part of the finals of the top-8 skaters. Patrick Beckert is currently ranked on 17th only and debutante Leia Behlau is ranked on 23rd.

Due to the excitement of the World Sprint Championships it was virtually unnoticed that Patrick Beckert has established a new German record over 3000m. The skater from Erfurt skated in a time of 3:39.71 and improved the existing and for almost 6 years old record of Tobias Schneider by more than one and a half seconds. Congratulation!

Pavel Kulizjnikov is Sprint World Champion

After the disqualification of Nico Ihle in the second 500m race, the German men had no chance of a medal. The victory went as expected to the highflyer of the season, Pavel Kulizjnikov (RUS) before Hein Otterspeer (NED) and Alexei Jesin (RUS). The second German, Samuel Schwarz (GER), finishing with a 9th place in the overall standings.

Brittany Bowe is Sprint World Champion

The World Sprint Championships in Kazakhstan’s Astana ended in the women with previously expected victories of the favorites. So the victory clearly went to the United States. Brittany Bowe (USA) won before Heather Richardson (USA) and the big surprise of the season Erbanová Karolina (CZE). Finally, the podium was identical with the Single Distance World Championships a few weeks ago in Heerenveen. Judith Hesse (GER) is on the 10th place.

Too nervous – Nico Ihle (GER) was disqualified on the second day of the Sprint World Championships in Astana. After the first day lying in 3rd place and a possible medal in mind the Chemnitz overstepped the starting line in the second attempt to start. The first false start caused his opponent, the Canadian Laurent Dubrieul.

After the first day in the World Sprint Championships in Astana – Nico Ihle (GER) is after his 1000m race in the 3rd place in the overall standings behind Pavel Kulizjnikov (RUS) and Hein Otterspeer (NED). Samuel Schwarz (GER) is currently on the 11th place. In the women’s Brittany Bowe (USA) leads before Heather Richardson (USA) and Olga Fatkulina (RUS). The German Judith Hesse has the 9th place after a “streaky” first day.
